21 Years In 26 Letters

I am currently 21 years old and can’t help but feel I have learned more than the average 21-year-old through the things I have seen and experienced. I have changed so much over the years and I love to think about what brought me to this point. I recently read a blog post by Gabi Mulder titled ’21 YEARS FROM A-Z’ and it basically involved going through every letter of the alphabet and attaching some aspect of your current life to that letter. I really loved the idea and decided to do it for myself.

I chose a long car ride to think about and capture this – where I am in life right know and what parts of that life define me – my obsessions, my habits, my quirks, my people, my desires, hopes, and dreams, my favorite things.

Here is my alphabet of who I am today at 21 years old.

A – Authenticity

If I have learned one thing in my 21 years, it is to always be my authentic self, no matter what. I refuse to pretend to be someone I’m not to please anyone else. I am me and I love me.

B – Bananas

If you know me, this is fitting. If you don’t, you’ll learn. Bananas have truly changed my life. They are the pedestal in which my life as a vegan stands on. They keep me healthy, happy, nourished, and absolutely in love with food as fuel for my body.

C – Change

Change is inevitable and almost always change is good. Allow it. Accept it. Embrace it.

D – Dream

Now more than ever I have realized how important it is to take your dreams seriously and truly fight for what you want in life. Nothing is impossible.

E – Envelopes

I have fallen in love with the romantic purity of sending and receiving written words. Thank you to my incredible boyfriend for always pouring his emotions out for me to keep and cherish forever.

F – Failure

“Never a failure, always a lesson.” Yes, I have failed many times in my 21 years, but I have learned something from every one of those experiences. And, in hindsight, I am truly glad each and every one of them happened.

G – Grand Adventures

Even the smallest adventures are considered grand when you’re with the right people.

H – Home

Home is no longer a place to me. Home is a feeling. Home is a person.

I – Imagination

Creativity. Magic. Art. Exploration. Using my imagination and bringing my thoughts to life through writing has made me, me.

J – Jade

Jade is the stone of calm in the midst of storm. Its action balances nerves and soothes cardiac rhythm. Green Jade is a crystal of love. It is supportive of new love, and increases trustworthiness and fidelity. It also inspires love later in life.

K – Kindness

Be kind to every kind. Always.

L – Law of Attraction

Focusing on positive or negative thoughts can bring positive or negative experiences into your life. Learning and utilizing this has changed my life forever.

M – Moon

I have no words. The moon is within me. It is my element and it is who I am.

N – Necessities

Learning what is truly necessary in my life and what no longer has value or brings me joy has had a huge impact on the way I live. Everyone can benefit from living a minimalistic life. Focusing on what you truly need and removing the rest will allow you to find true, undeniable happiness.

O – Optimism

Always look on the positive, bright side of things. There is no circumstance in which negativity will do you any good.

P – Peace

Give peace a chance. All we need is love.

Q – Quotes

As I said before, the written word is such a powerful thing. To know that another has felt the same and has also found a way to put those feelings so perfectly into words provides me with such a strong sense of connection to the human race.

R – Rupi Kaur

My greatest source of empowerment.

S – Self Love

Of course this is a work in progress, as I imagine it will always be, but I have learned at 21 that there is nothing I can do to change who I am or how I look. My self worth is not contingent on the space between my thighs. I am a beautiful person inside and out, as we all are, and I hope someday that is something we can all truly believe.

T – Time

Enjoy every second of every day and don’t wish for any to go by quickly. Take in the moment and breathe, because there is never enough time.

U – Uncertainty

“I wanted a perfect ending. Now I’ve learned, the hard way, that some poems don’t rhyme, and some stories don’t have a clear beginning, middle, and end. Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment and making the best of it, without knowing what’s going to happen next.
Delicious Ambiguity.” – Gilda Radner

V – Vegan

Quite possibly the most important of all – being vegan has changed my life in every possible way, and all for the better. I am all I am today because I am vegan.

W – Wanderlust

My desire to travel has grown exponentially up to this point in my life. The more connections I make and the more small experiences I have, the more I crave need to see the world and all it has to offer.

X – X’s and O’s

Never underestimate the power of a kiss and hug from the one you love.

Y – Yesterday

There is no going back, so don’t focus on the past. The present is all you have, so make the most of it. No regrets.

Z – Zanyism

Zanyism is the behavior or quality of being ‘zany’ or, in other words, horseplay or clowning around. Fitting for my life as 3 years ago I fell in love with the biggest goofball I know who keeps me young, even though he’s older than me, and always keeps me laughing.
